Job Description
Establishes communications systems by installing, operating, and maintaining telecommunications infrastructure.
- Service voice and data networks by running, pulling, terminating, and splicing cables using hand tools, epoxy, or mechanical equipment.
- Access specific areas to work with fiber or install terminal boxes, auxiliary equipment, or appliances, using bucket trucks, or by climbing telecom towers or ladders.
- Monitor, communicate, and perform corrective actions to fix problems affecting any fiber or fiber related equipment.
- Repair breakdowns in fiber optic and wireless networks.
- Inspect breakdown location.
- Perform inspection and maintenance of fiber optic and wireless infrastructure.
- Engage in technical support teams to work towards problems resolution related to physical telecom infrastructure.
- Support contractors during new fiber optic installation process.
- Perform connection and maintenance of antennas.
- Access other areas to work with optic fiber such as tunnels, trenches, or crawl spaces.
- Keep materials inventory in official vehicles assigned to unit.
- Place insulation over conductors / pipes or seal splices with moisture-proof covering.
- Support the installation of electric equipment.
- Follow codes, legal regulations and standards to maintain a safe work environment.
