Position Title : Controller

Department : Finance

Reports to : Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Classification : Exempt

Position Summary :

The Controller is responsible for supervising, monitoring, and ensuring the smooth functioning of the Finance Department, supporting the CFO in managing all accounting and financial activities for the company and its affiliated entities. The role focuses on ensuring compliance with accounting principles, maintaining financial integrity, overseeing audits, managing internal controls, and providing accurate and timely financial reporting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Supervise and lead all daily operations of the Finance Department, including accounting activities, bank reconciliations, ledger maintenance, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
  • Manage the monthly and annual close processes, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, internal controls, and credit management guidelines.
  • Organize and facilitate external audits, working closely with auditors to provide necessary documentation and respond to findings.
  • Oversee cash management operations, including weekly fund transfers, liquidity management, and banking relationships.
  • Supervise payroll processing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and tenant billing activities.
  • Prepare and file tax reports, including sales and use taxes, payroll taxes, property taxes, and business licenses.
  • Provide financial analysis and reporting to executive leadership, including performance metrics, variance analysis, and forecasting support.
  • Review and authorize credit memos, commission calculations, and customer credit limits.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive financial and operational information.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting and credit teams, ensuring high levels of compliance, performance, and professional development.
  • Act as backup for the CFO when needed, supporting special projects and strategic initiatives.

Education and Experience Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting and finance roles, preferably with supervisory responsibilities.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP, strong Excel skills, and general proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (oral and written).
  • Skills and Competencies :

  • Deep knowledge of accounting principles and financial regulations.
  • Excellent leadership, coaching, and team management capabilities.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
