Senior Content Specialist

The Senior Content Specialist plays a key role in shaping and amplifying the stories that showcase Puerto Rico's innovation, entrepreneurship, science, and technology ecosystem. This position develops compelling content across multiple platforms that connects research, innovation, and economic development initiatives with diverse local and global audiences.

Working closely with the Communications & Marketing team, the Senior Content Specialist helps bring content strategies to life through strong storytelling, editorial excellence, and creative execution, while proactively identifying story opportunities and recommending content ideas that support organizational priorities. The position serves as a bridge between organizational initiatives and diverse stakeholder audiences, transforming complex information into engaging, accessible, and impactful content.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Content Creation & Editorial Development:

  • Write, edit, and publish high-quality content across multiple formats, including articles, feature stories, press releases, newsletters, website content, social media, and multimedia platforms.
  • Support newsletters scheduling and analyze performance metrics.
  • Translate complex scientific, technical, and innovation-related information into clear, engaging, and audience-focused narratives.
  • Conduct interviews, research topics, and develop content that advances organizational priorities and key messages.
  • Identify and recommend storytelling opportunities, content angles, and editorial ideas that support approved communications priorities, campaigns, and program objectives.
  • Maintain editorial quality, accuracy, consistency, and brand voice across all content.

Digital Publishing & Content Management:

  • Publish, format, and update content across websites, newsletters, social media channels, and other digital platforms.
  • Publish and update content on website News section and related pages, format articles in WordPress.
  • Manage content assets, including images, videos, metadata, and supporting resources, following SEO and accessibility best practices.

Social Media & Community Engagement:

  • Create, adapt, schedule, and publish social media content aligned with organizational campaigns and objectives.
  • Monitor and respond to audience engagement, inquiries, and community interactions across social media platforms.
  • Support content strategies that increase visibility, engagement, and audience growth.

Multimedia & Event Communications:

  • Develop content and promotional materials for videos, podcasts, events, campaigns, and institutional initiatives.
  • Capture, coordinate, and manage content creation before, during, and after events.
  • Support multimedia storytelling through written, visual, and digital content.

Performance, Collaboration & Operational Support:

  • Monitor content performance and audience engagement using analytics and reporting tools, providing recommendations for optimization.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, program leads, external partners, and creative vendors to execute content initiatives.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and ensure content accuracy and compliance with organizational standards.
  • Participate in content planning, editorial meetings, and other responsibilities assigned by management.
  • Monitor content performance using Google Analytics and report to managers with findings and recommendations.
  • Analyze newsletter and social media metrics to measure engagement.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple simultaneous projects under strict timelines and within confidential circumstances.

Qualifications & Technical Job Requirements

  • Passionate about science communication and genuinely enjoys translating complex scientific and technical concepts into engaging, accessible stories for diverse audiences.
  • Natural writer who can produce high-quality content quickly across multiple formats including articles, social media captions, email copy, headlines, and feature stories.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines without compromising quality.
  • Community-oriented mindset and genuinely enjoy engaging with people, fostering positive relationships with audiences and professionals.
  • Flexible and adaptable professional who is comfortable working under managerial direction and takes satisfaction in producing content and contributing creative ideas.
  • Curious and proactive storyteller who enjoys identifying compelling stories, emerging topics, and content opportunities that align with organizational goals and audience interests.
  • Strong editorial judgment with the ability to recognize impactful stories and adapt content for different audiences and platforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Spanish and English.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to translate complex scientific and technical information for general audiences.
  • Proficiency with WordPress or similar web platforms and familiarity with social media platforms.
  • Experience with multimedia production (photos and videos) using mobile or similar equipment.
  • Experience with Google Analytics or similar analytics platforms.
  • Ability to write in multiple styles and tones for different audiences and platforms.
  • Comfortable working in hybrid or remote settings with strong self-management.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience in science communication, science journalism, or institutional communications, preferred.
  • Experience managing social media communities or engagement, preferred.
  • Familiarity with newsletter platforms (Mailchimp, Hubspot) and email marketing, preferred.
  • Understanding digital media best practices and content optimization, preferred.
  • Familiarity with graphic design principles or visual content, preferred.

Experience & Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, marketing, science or related field.
  • 3+ years of professional experience as a content writer, editor, or multimedia content creator.
  • Experience with content management systems and digital publishing platforms.
